Program Description

A one hour program with dramatic performances of The Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven. Campbell speaks in-character as Poe with the audience about the author’s life, his death, and his profound influence on American literature; dispelling the myths that have surrounded his legacy to show how his works continue to affect us today. A two hour show is also available with additional readings of poems and The Cask of Amontillado. The program is suitable for all ages and venues.

Puppetry/Storytelling

Storyteller Vicky Dworkin  shares multicultural folktales from around the world featuring stones, rocks, caves, jewels, and mountains. As she has done in the past for many Hawaii State Public Library Summer Reading Programs, she will present a family program suitable for ages four and up, using puppets and props to enliven the stories and engage the audience.  Stories may include “Strongest of All” from Japan; “Punia and the Sharks” from Hawaii; “Rooster and the Diamond Button” from Hungary; or “The Judge Who Tried a Rock” from China. Children will choose from Vicky’s Magic Story Box to determine which stories she will actually tell.

A former children’s librarian at the Hawaii State Library from 2004 to 2016 and a long time storyteller, Vicky served on the Nēnē Award Committee, the Children’s Literature Hawaii Steering Committee, the American Folklore Society Aesop Award Committee, and founded the Moonlight Storytellers Swap Group.
