Beyond an Apple a Day: Providing Consumer Health Information at Your Library

An on the ground course that will cover the health information seeking behavior of consumers and the role of the librarian in providing health information for their patrons. Creative discussion will lead to ideas about health information outreach and allow the librarian to develop a potential elevator speech regarding resources available.
Objectives are to cover:
• A brief history about consumer health
• Challenges of providing consumer health information at your library
• Planning a consumer health opportunity for your library
• Consumer health on the internet
• References
• Outreach
• CHIS (Certified Health Information Specialist)
• Project development
This class is eligible for 2 hours of MLA Continuing Education credit that can be counted through the Consumer Health Information Specialization. You do not have to be a member of the Medical Library Association to receive certification. Additional information will be provided.
